Burn Injury Hazards Prompt Recall of Air Movers/Blowers

The product liability lawyers at SHOOP | A PROFESSIONAL LAW CORPORATION remind consumers of a recent product recall, announced by Packing Tape, Inc., in conjunction and cooperation with the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission ("CPSC") involving the company's air movers/blowers, due to associated fire hazards and burn injuries.

The product defect associated with these various units involves the air mover/blower's thermal switches, which have a propensity to fail catastrophically, thereby resulting in the overheating of the unit's motor, which overheats. This failure modality involving the overheating motor poses an obvious fire hazard.

Packaging Tape, Inc., estimates there are approximately 2,800 such defective units currently in distribution within the United States. Specifically, this particular product recall includes air movers/blowers which are used principally to dry floors in both residential and commercial settings. For product identification purposes, these air movers' plastic housing (it's a molded, plastic housing) measures approximately eighteen (18) inches high and approximately eighteen (18) inches deep by about sixteen and a half inches wide. These units additionally have a yellow electric cord which measures approximately twenty-five (25) feet in length, with a power switch that can be found on the units' left-side, at its front.

Involved in this recall are units with corresponding product codes as indicated, below:

OPS-2500-CF (black);
OPS-2500-CFR (black); and
OPS-2200Y-CF (yellow).

These various model numbers are further indicated on each of the units' invoices for sale. Additionally of note for product identification purposes, the units' "CleanFreak" logo and corresponding phone numbers can be found printed on a white label near the front of the product on either yellow or silver-colored labels on the back of the unit.

Packaging Tape, Inc., is already aware of eight (8) such adverse events in the field whereby the units have overheated, thereby causing four (4) reported fires, one of which involved property damage to a facility in excess of $225,000.00.

Consumers should immediately cease the use of these recalled, air movers/blowers and bear in mind that it is a violation of federal law to resell or otherwise attempt to resell a recalled, consumer product.

These recalled products were sold at retail in Packaging Tape, Inc. warehouses and online at www.CleanFreak.com, www.AirMovers.com, and various other similar such online retail outlets. They sold at retail for for approximately $145.00 and were made available to the public from approximately February of 2008 through December of 2010. These recalled products were distributed by Packaging Tape, Inc., of Wausau, Wisconsin, and imported by OPS America, of Loretto, Minnesota. They were manufactured and assembled in China.
