Dyson Recalls Portable Electric Heaters (Fire Hazards)

The burn injury lawyers at SHOOP | A PROFESSIONAL LAW CORPORATION remind the public of a recent, voluntary product recall involving Dyson Portable electric heaters due to associated fire and burn injury hazards.

This product recall is initiated in conjunction and cooperation with the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission ("CPSC"), who reminds the public to cease the use of these products unless instructed otherwise. Further, the Commission advises that it is a federal offense to resell or otherwise attempt to resell a recalled, consumer product.

These various, Dyson bladeless portable electric heaters have associated product defects which involve these heaters developing an electrical short and then overheating, thereby posing an obvious burn and fire injury hazard to users.

There are approximately 338,000 of these units currently in distribution within the continental United States and there are roughly 43,000 such portable heaters within Canada.

For product identification purposes, this voluntary, product recall involves all Dyson Hot+ Cool heaters, as well as Dyson Hot heaters. These units have corresponding product/model numbers, as follows:

Model Number AM04; and
Model Number AM05 (Dyson Hot+Cool heaters).

These various units are approximately twenty-three inches in height and have a round base with an upper portion resembling an long ring-shape. These heaters come with no outward or external fan-blades, and are comprised of a plastic housing. These heaters were made available in black, blue, gray, white and various other such combinations, and each of these heaters had remote controls.

Model numbers can be located slightly above the company (Dyson) logo near the product info stickers underneath the base of the heater.

Dyson is already in receipt of a staggering, eighty-two (82) incidents of these various, recalled units shorting and overheating - inclusive of 4 such reports wherein the heaters, themselves, burned or melted their internal component parts. As mentioned above, consumers should immediately cease the use of these recalled products and unplug these heaters. They were sold at Best Buy, Bed Bath, Kohl's Macy's, Sears, and also sold online at various such retailers from approximately September of 2011 to March of 2014 . They sold at retail for approximately for $399, and were imported by Dyson Inc., of Chicago. These products were manufactured in Malaysia.
