Space Heater Recall Lawyers

The burn injury lawyers at SHOOP | A PROFESSIONAL LAW CORPORATION remind the public that on August 14, 2014, Vornado Air, LLC, in conjunction and cooperation with the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission ("CPSC"), issued a voluntary product recall involving the Vornado Air, LLC, Electric Space Heater. These various space heaters have been recalled due to associated fire and burn hazards.

Purchasers are advised by the Commission and by the manufacturer to immediately cease the use of these products and bear in mind that it is a violation of federal law to sell or otherwise attempt to re-sell a recalled, consumer product.

For identification purposes, the Vornado space heater recall has been assigned recall number 14-256 from the Commission, and the recalled units are Vornado VH110 Whole Room Vortex heaters in the colors black and white. The product defect related to these various heaters involves their potential to overheat - which causes the space heaters to melt and, in turn, the units catch fire and ignite nearby items. This is an obvious ignition source and an even more obvious burn injury hazard to consumers.

This voluntary product recall instituted in conjunction with CPSC involves the Vornado VH110 Whole Room Vortex electric space heaters which are sold in both black and white colors. With regard to dimensions, these space heaters measure approximately ten inches high, nine inches deep and ten inches at the base. The power switch and the heat setting knobs can be found atop top the space heaters. Notably, the "Vornado" logos can be found with corresponding, gray "V"s on the fronts of the various heaters.

Space heaters subject to recall bear the numbers "one" and "three" as the 4th and 5th digits of the product serial numbers. Models and serial numbers are located on silver decals situated on the bottom portions of these recalled products.

Vornado and CPSC are already in receipt of a staggering twenty-nine (29) reports from the field of these space heaters overheating, melting and causing injury and property damage. Multiple such reports indicate that these units have caught fire in residential settings and caused injury and damages to include smoke inhalation and reports of property damage. Consumers are advised that they should immediately switch off and unplug these electric space heaters.

These units were sold nationally at Bed Bath & Beyond, Home Depot, Menards, Target and OSH (and various other such retailers) and online at Vornado.com from approximately June 2013 through May 2014. These recalled space heaters sold at retail for approximately $60.
The units were manufactured in China and imported by Vornado Air, LLC, of Andover, Kansas.
