Air Exchangers Recalled Due To Fire Hazards

The preeminent burn injury lawyers at SHOOP | A PROFESSIONAL LAW CORPORATION write to advise consumers that Venmar Ventilation, in conjunction and cooperation with the United States Consumer Products Safety Commission ("CPSC"), has expanded its prior product recall of its air exchangers d to associated fire hazards.

This new date for expanded recall was November 13, 2014 and CPSC has assigned recall number 15-025 for these air exchangers. These various units (recalled Venmar air exchanger, model 45400s have a product defect in their individual motors. The defect causes the air exchangers to overheat, thereby posing obvious fire and burn injury hazards to the public.

There are currently about 108,000 such units currently in distribution within the United States which are subject to this recall, coupled with the additional 77,000 which were recalled previously in March and December of 2007 and again in June of 2011. Moreover, there are an estimated 207,000 such units subject to recall in Canada. This is a very large population of potentially defective products currently in distribution.

For product identification purposes, the subject recall includes the Venmar air exchangers with (and without) heat recovery mechanisms - at times sold under differing brand-names - which are utilized to circulate air in and about the house. These metal air exchangers are sold in the color of blue or grey and the air exchangers with the heat recovery capabilities which are subject to this particular, voluntary product recall have manufacture dates ranging from January of 2002 to May of 2008 and contain model and brand information found located on black or silver labels on the outside panels of the various units. Those Venmar air exchangers that do not have heat recovery capability (and included in this latest recall) have manufacture dates ranging from January of 2002 to July of 2009. These model and brand identifiers for these particular units can be found printed on the rating plate or on the sides of these various exchangers.

For further product identification purposes, model numbers within the scope of this recall include the following:

VC5AA; and

Venmar Ventilation is already in receipt of multiple reports from the field regarding catastrophic product failures within the scope of this expanded product recall.
